December 21st pics

It's been clear and cold up here in Alaska. I know back in Washington, there's a nice big snow storm going on now, but up here, it's been clear for about a week and a half now. In fact, it's so clear that some of the more reclusive landmarks are showing. I took all these pictures from "our" beach -- that is, the beach in front of the school.

Here's a picture of the two tallest mountains on the island.

And this is a picture of "white cliffs" -- the next island over has some white cliffs we can see from the school on good days. It's hard to see in the picture unless you know what you're looking for, but in real life, they blaze white on days like today.

And here is a picture of the creek that flows down onto the beach. You can see the open water to the left of the picture. The rest of it has frozen. As the tide goes out, and fresh water takes back the estuary, it freezes and leaves this big ice bowl. It's thick enough that we can cross the creek by walking on the ice.
And that's it for today. Hope you all are enjoying your snow!

It looks beautiful! I would have thought it would be snowy up there. It's a bit colder down here in San Jose and we've had frost on the grass and cars in the morning which is remarkable for here. Take care and keep putting up photos :)
